Picture yourself on an Alaska cruise. What images come to mind? Mega ships teeming with families? Pricey shore excursions? Touristy, “native” villages?

For travelers who want a more authentic, more adult experience, and who want to experience the real Alaska, Key Traveler has the perfect alternative.

Our supplier of small-ship adventure cruises to Alaska offers guests a truly up-close and personal Alaskan experience. On these voyages, you’ll see breathtaking beauty, stunning glaciers, amazing wildlife and intriguing native culture.

You’ll navigate fjords in your own kayak, meet Alaskans who are happy to share their unique traditions with you, sample local delicacies, and much more.

The atmosphere is Alaska-casual. The staff and crew are friendly and engaging. The food is gourmet-quality.

Your small ship will be able to reach out-of-the-way places: tiny, private bays, spectacular Alaskan fjords, up-close views of majestic glaciers, and unseen places where you’ll further explore in kayaks, motorboats and ATVs.

You’ll enjoy educational presentations by expedition leaders and onboard experts, including a daily recap social hour with drinks and hors d’oeuvres. Weather-appropriate clothing and high-powered binoculars are provided for use during the cruise – free of charge.

The ships are staffed by Alaskans (some with Native Tlingit ancestry) whose passion for Alaska is obvious. The cruise line practices “green” tourism, but that doesn’t mean “no-frills.” Chefs craft gourmet meals using organic local ingredients, home-grown wines and microbrews are always on the menu and Alaskan-crafted soaps and shampoos are offered in staterooms. Cabins have all modern amenities including luxury bedding and large windows for spectacular views. The fleet is comprised of several small, highly maneuverable ships that accommodate between 42 and 66 passengers, resulting in a friendly and casual ambiance. They are all designed to easily navigate narrow channels and hidden waterways, yet provide all the comforts you would expect from a much larger ship.

Experienced Captains follow their own instincts — rather than a set-in-stone itinerary — in order to make each day truly unique. You might make an unscheduled stop to view some awesome wildlife, or spend extra time exploring a hidden passage.

Guests enjoy at least one (sometimes more) intriguing shore excursions in each port of call that showcase true Alaskan adventure and colorful native heritage. And these are included AT NO EXTRA COST!

Here are just a few examples of the complimentary shore excursions:

  • Alaskan salmon & king crab dinner at a rustic lodge
  • St. Michaels Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Russian Bishop’s House, Alaska Raptor Center and Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka
  • Mt. Roberts Tram and Mendenhall Glacier Visitors Center
  • Norwegian Folk Dance show in Petersburg
  • Stikine River Jet Boat Tour and Wrangell City Walking Tour
  • Totem Carving Demonstration, Salmon Hatchery Tour and Bear Viewing Platform in the village of Kak
